What Glenn showed me was so simple I could not believe it is not universally known and acknowledged, but it is not. The ancient Chinese philosophers already knew it: ‘The perfect man breathes as if he were not breathing’ – Lao Tzu 4th Century BC.
Such a simple trick, just breathe less (not more as we have always been told), slowing everything down, and you will see immediate results. True. I have, at 73, a condition where when I suddenly jump up after sitting for an hour or more at the computer (which I probably should not do in any event), and I walk uphill or upstairs, I often suddenly become dizzy and run out of breath. Glenn taught me a simple way to stop this: I make sure that my mouth is closed, and I consciously slow down my breathing, and presto, in a few moments the dizziness disappears and my heart rate goes down.
Moreover, I live with a most enchanting woman, who found my snoring very off-putting. Well, guess what? After Buteyko, I stopped snoring!
I also had a symptom of yawning uncontrollably early in the morning. I thought it was normal. But once I stopped mouth-breathing, my yawning decreased considerably.
All in all, doing the Buteyko course with Glenn was one of the best things I have ever done for my health and well-being. I believe one day it will be recognized everywhere as something we do early on and never cease!
